TATUNG ANNOUNCES THREE NEW HIGH-END PC SERVERS
AND ENHANCES ITS AWARD WINNING BLADE SERVER TO 2.4GHz
New Servers feature 3.06 GHz Intel Xeon processors in 1U and 2U rackmount
configurations
Comdex Fall 2003 : Booth # 10248
Las Vegas, NV – Nov. 17, 2003
At this year’s Comdex Las Vegas 2003, Tatung will introduce three
new rackmount servers, targeting the high-end market for technical and
scientific applications, bio-genetics, GIS, web-based applications,
E-commerce servers, internet media streaming and gaming servers, and
clustering environments; and will also offer an enhanced version of
the TUD-3114, its 3U form factor Ultra Dense blade server, with low
voltage 2.4 GHz Intel XeonTM processors. The three new PC servers, including
two 1U and one 2U form factor systems, support up to two Intel Xeon
processors running at 3.06 GHz, featuring a 400/533Mhz front side Bus
and a variety of high performance peripheral device options. Space-Saving
Rack-Optimized IU and 2U Form Factors. The models TSS 1522 and TSS 1523
servers are both 1U systems, requiring the least amount of rackmount
space without compromising performance or expandability of components.
Each of these systems include dual Intel Xeon processors, rated at 3.06
GHz, with 512K of level 2 cache. Both feature Front Side Bus speeds
of 400/533 MHz; 350 watt or higher power supplies and support for 3.5
inch front-mounted hot-swap drives. The TSS 1522 and TSS 1523 both feature
up to 12 GB of ECC DDR266 memory, a floppy disk and slim CD-ROM drive;
two PCI expansion slots; RAID and Ethernet support. The two new systems
provide different options for hard disks, RAID and PCI slots. The TSS
1522 features a Silicon Image SIL3114 SATA-150 controller supporting
RAID levels 0 and 1; three hot-swap 3.5 inch SATA-150 hard disk drives;
and one 32 bit, 66MHz SO-DIMM low profile PCI slot. The TSS 1523 includes
an Adaptec AIC-7902W dual channel Ultra 320 SCSI controller; three hot-swap
3.5 inch Ultra SCSI hard disk drives; and one 64-bit, 66MHz SO-DIMM
for the Adaptec ZCR, with optional support for RAID levels 0, 1 and
5. Both systems also include Intel 82546EB gigabit ethernet LAN controllers,
ATI Ragetm XL graphics controllers with onboard 8MB frame buffers; bus
master IDE ports supporting ATA-100; and 350W power supplies.
The TSS 2521 is a 2U server, also featuring single or dual Intel Xeon
processors rated at 3.06 GHz, with 512K of level 2 cache. Controllers
and peripherals are the same as the TSS 1523, including the use of the
Adaptec AIC-7902W dual channel Ultra 320 SCSI controller. However, the
TSS 2521 provides eight hot-swap 3.5 inch SCSI hard disk drives in the
larger 2U form factor, compared to the three drives in the IU form factor
TSS1523.
“These systems are ideal for engineering design automation, e-commerce
and other web-based applications, internet game servers and clustering
applications,” said Dr. Kam Chan, president of Tatung Science
and Technology, Inc.
New Blade Server Features 2.4 GHz Intel LV XEON
Processor
Tatung is also announcing an enhancement to its TUD-3114, the company’s
Ultra dense blade server that won the award for Best System Integration
Solution at LinuxWorld 2003. The TUD-3114, which will now include 2.4
GHz Intel power-saving low voltage XEON processors, features integrated
dual switch blades and management blades, supporting up to 196 Intel
Xeon servers per rack, all with low power consumption. With multiple
server blades, redundant switch blades, management blades, power supplies
and fan modules, the system offers built-in high availability, serviceability
and manageability. The TUD-3114 is bundled with Amphus ManageSite 2.0™
, a management software suite which supports lights out and remote management,
fast and automatic provisioning. The highly integrated system will help
to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) and increase operational efficiencies
for data center applications.
High Density and Power Savings
While the TUD-3114 integrates 14 server blades in a 3U chassis, allowing
up to 196 high performance Intel Xeon processors based servers in a
single 42U height rack, the effective density is even higher. The system
includes dual Gigabit ethernet switches and dual management blades,
each of which would normally consume an additional 1U of rack space.
Each server blade consumes as little as 55 Watts (with an average configuration
and load consisting of 2GB of memory and a 40GB hard disk drive.). These
power and space-saving efficiencies provide direct power savings to
the data center. Further savings are achieved through reduced air conditioning,
UPS and backup power requirements.
